It has been a challenge to find teachers who were willing to travel to these remote spots and help our students. Considering these challenges, we were able to increase literacy and math skills by 90% across all of our students in the first 12 months.
One of our main goals is to provide education to refugee children who were forced to flee their countries due to war, famine or extreme poverty. Presently, we are actively engaged in southern Turkey, working diligently to provide educational opportunities to children residing in refugee camps.
According to the Turkish Ministry of National Education, over 400,000 children are out of school leaving them particularly vulnerable to isolation, discrimination, violence and abuse. Our goal is to open as many education centers as possible to provide basics to the children who do not have access to school in remote refugee camps.
We started two centers in 2020 and were able to provide basics to around 100 children ages 6-16 living in remote refugee camps. Based on our initial analysis, our students were missing basic literacy and math skills and knowledge. We started from the basics, to teach them reading, writing, phonetics and arithmetic math.
